Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Mind Examination (“we”) handles information when you use mindexamination.com. We designed the site to work without accounts and to keep your answers on your own device.
The short version
- You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name or email to take a test.
- Your individual answers and full results are stored only in your browser. We cannot see them.
- When you finish a test, your browser can send us an anonymous score summary to improve our norms. You can turn this off at any time on your Profile page.
- We count how many people start and finish each test, without cookies.
- Messages you post on the message board are stored and reviewed before they appear.
Information stored on your device
The site uses your browser’s local storage to keep your test progress, results and settings (such as your language choice and whether you share anonymous scores). This data never leaves your device unless you export it. You can export, import or erase it from your Profile page, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
Information we receive
Anonymous score summaries. If sharing is on, finishing a test sends: the test name and version, your summary scores (for example a total score or trait averages — never your answer to each question), the time taken, the page language, the date, and a random device identifier generated in your browser. The identifier is not linked to your identity; we use it only to limit repeated submissions. We use these summaries to calculate norms and percentiles.
Usage counts. When a test is started or finished we add one to a counter for that test. Counts are de-duplicated for 30 minutes using a hashed IP address (see below). We do not use cookies or tracking pixels for this.
Page analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic, such as page views, referring sites, countries and page load speed. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not build profiles of individual visitors.
Message board posts. If you post a message we store the nickname (optional), the message, the optional results badge you chose to show, the page language and the date. Every message is reviewed before it is published, and we may decline or remove any message.
IP addresses. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Where we need to limit abuse (counters, score submissions and posting), we store only a salted hash of the IP address. The salt changes every day, so hashes cannot be linked across days, and we delete stored hashes after 30 days.
How long we keep data
- Anonymous score summaries and counters: kept to build and update norms.
- Message board posts: kept while they are published or awaiting review; declined posts may be kept for up to 90 days to handle abuse.
- IP hashes: deleted after 30 days.
Advertising
The site does not show ads yet. Before ads are enabled, this policy will be updated to describe the advertising partners and the cookies involved, and visitors in regions that require it will be asked for consent first.
Your choices and rights
- Turn off anonymous score sharing on your Profile page.
- Erase everything stored on your device from your Profile page.
- Because score summaries are anonymous, we cannot find or delete a specific person’s summary. To have a message board post removed, email us with the date and text of the post.
Children
The site is intended for people aged 13 and over. The Dark Triad test is intended for adults.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
